As COVID-19 cases rise across Ontario, the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is providing an update to keep you informed. The health and safety of our students and staff remains our top priority.

COVID-19 Reporting

Starting next week, families will receive a daily report. This will come from their school principal through School-Day. The report will include:

  • the number of COVID-19 cases reported
  • affected classes

The report will not identify students or staff. If you do not receive a report, it means there were no COVID-19 cases reported at your school that day.

If there is a COVID-19 case in your child’s classroom, your child can continue going to school. Please complete the COVID-19 school screening tool each day before going to school.

Potential Class or School Closures

We are facing increased staffing challenges due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases, and continue to implement a number of strategies to ensure schools stay open for learning. We have been very fortunate that to date, no WRDSB schools have been closed due to staff shortages. If we do need to close a classroom or school, families will be informed through School-Day and their school website 24 hours before the closure. Class closures may last as long as five days.

During closures, students will be able to access learning asynchronously through their virtual classroom. Families and students can also access learning materials via the WRDSB@Home website and the Short Term Virtual Learning website (Note: students will need to use their board email to access). Families are also reminded that students may access additional learning opportunities through TV Ontario’s TVO Learn and Télévision française de l’Ontario (TFO). TVO Mathify is also available to provide additional math support for students in Grades 6-11, including 1:1 tutoring.

School closures will also be reported here.

Wearing of Masks

We encourage students and staff to wear a mask if they are able. There are also situations where you must wear a mask to school. Please see the full list of scenarios where masks are still required at school.

Community Care

Our priority is to ensure the health and well-being of our staff and students. Please be assured that these efforts are part of our commitment to keeping schools open, keeping our staff and students safe, and ensuring that parents and caregivers are well-informed.
